What is JNVST?
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) is conducted for admission to class VI in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalas located across the country (India) in 28 states and 7 union territories. At present, there are 636 JNV schools throughout the country. A maximum of 80 students are admitted to Class VI in each JNV through this selection test. The exam is conducted at the start of the year while JNVST results are declared by the end of May of the year of admission. This exam directed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti aims at selecting the best students for study at JNV schools in India.
Purpose and Objective of JNV Study Package:
The study package for JNV is a comprehensive text for students of class-v who are preparing for the selection test (for admission to class vi). It is a mixture of simple, relevant, text with a sufficient number of practice tests to provide a complete preparation guide for the aspiring students. Salient features of the JNV Study Package are designed as per the JNV 2022 Syllabus.
JNV Test Syllabus
JNV test is divided into three sections. Mental Ability Test, Arithmetic Test, and Language Test as described below.
Section-I: Mental Ability Test (MAT)
This is a non–verbal test. Questions are based on figures and diagrams only. The mental Ability section is aimed at testing students’ mental ability functionality and consists of questions with figures and diagrams. For this section, students must practice questions pertaining to mental ability on a regular basis to improve their mental analytical and reasoning skills that eventually help the students to crack the JNV test.
Section-II: Arithmetic Test
The purpose of this section is to test the students’ math skills. Topics covered in the Arithmetic test category are Number and numeric systems, Four fundamental operations on the whole numbers, Fractional numbers, and four fundamental operations on them. Factors and multiples include their properties, LCM, and HCF of numbers, Decimals, and fundamental operations on them, Conversion of fractions to decimals, and vice-versa. Measurement of length, mass, capacity, time, money, etc. Distance, time, and speed. Approximation of expressions, Simplification of Numerical Expressions, Percentage and its applications, Profit and loss, Simple interest, and Perimeter, area, and volume. Students must practice a lot of these math problems designed in the JNV package that consists of previous year papers with extra comprehensive math materials to improve students’ overall math skills.
Section-III: Language test
The main purpose of this test is to assess the reading comprehension of the candidates. The test consists of four passages. Each passage is followed by 5 questions. Candidates shall read each passage carefully and answer the questions that follow. To do well in this section all you need to do is go through the JNV designed package materials, solve given comprehensive passages and read additional materials like books/newspapers to improve the language test skills.
JNVST 2022 Paper Pattern:
The selection test will be of two-hour duration from 11:30 am to 01:30 pm and will have 3 sections with only objective-type questions. There are 80 questions in all for 100 marks. The JNV 2022 exam date for class 6 is April 30, 2022.
